I noticed that the last name is followed by a period. Perhaps Haus (German for 'house') is actually abbreviated from a longer last name.
Below his name it says age 57 years 6 months and 9 days.
Thanks to contributor, Gail Schneider (49860769) for the following suggested edit:
Johann Haus was killed by a runaway team at the Lawler Depot while getting the pulpit for the first church (which burned in 1911). He also donated the land for the cemetery, which is across the road from the church.
I'm not sure why there is a period after his surname on the gravestone. The name is Haus.
(I'm his great-great-granddaughter.)
